The breed from which these houses are built is called “gneiss” – a layered stone. Most houses here are more than 400 years old. In local restaurants they cook just deliciously delicious. Everything is fresh, the hosts are friendly, the atmosphere is romantic. On the way back – the famous dam, where the film was shot about the world famous agent 007. From Bellinzona, the road lies in the valley of Leventine with the ancient villages of Biasca, Jornico, Airolo. Then, along the serpentine road, overcoming the pass of Saint Gotthard, lying at an altitude of 2108 meters, you will get to Andermatt.
In September 1799, the commander Suvorov made a heroic transition from the canton of Ticino to the center of Switzerland. Next to this place in the Schellenen gorge is the legendary “Devil’s Bridge”, through which Suvorov’s troops crossed the pass, there is also a 12-meter cross carved into a cliff face. This monument was erected in honor of the great commander Suvorov and his army in 1898 at the direction of Prince Golitsyn.
